The key things to consider when closing up silage ground

With farmers starting to close up silage ground in the coming weeks, Teagasc Drystock Advisor Gerard Cregg, based in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, is on this week’s Beef Edge podcast to discuss the main things farmers need to consider.

Gerard advises farmers to complete a fodder budget to assess the quantity and quality of silage they need for the winter, and why having a plan is important to achiving both metrics.

Applying the required nitrogen (N), phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) is also important and he discusses the various fertiliser plans.
